Transmission pipe, line pipe coating, valves and storage tanks — long lead items where a coating or weld defect is discovered a long way from the mill.
Transmission and line pipe, pipe coatings, valves and storage tanks are long-lead items made far from the site where they are installed, and a weld or coating defect found in the field is expensive and disruptive to correct. Inspection at the mill and the coating yard is where those defects are caught.
PSPP inspects line pipe and fittings from plate through forming, welding and 100% NDT, witnesses coating application and holiday testing, and inspects valves and storage-tank fabrication against API 5L, API 650/620, ASME B31 and the project specification.
Challenges
Weld and body integrity of line pipe
SAW and seamless line pipe is accepted on weldability testing and 100% NDT that must be witnessed, not just reported.
Coating quality
External and internal coatings fail by holidays, thickness shortfalls and poor adhesion, all checked at the coating yard.
Valve and fitting conformity
Valves and fittings need material, pressure and functional testing before they enter the line.
Tank fabrication and erection
Storage tanks combine plate quality, welding and dimensional tolerance across a large structure.
