How a competent inspector reaches your vendor’s floor

Anyone can put a person in a factory. The question is how you know that person is qualified for your equipment, independent of your vendor, and reporting against your code. Here is the documented sequence — six gates, each one leaving a record.

  1. Gate 01ISO 9001 · 8.2

    Your requirement is fixed first

Before anyone is approached, the scope is written down: equipment, discipline, applicable code, location, language and the hold and witness points in your ITP. An inspector cannot be matched to a scope that has not been defined.

    Record retained

    • Customer order or inspection assignment
    • ITP, specification and drawing revision on file
  2. Gate 02ISO 9001 · 7.2

A candidate is drawn from the approved register

Inspectors are selected from the Approved Inspector Register — internal staff or vetted specialists — filtered by the discipline your equipment falls under, not by who happens to be free that week.

    Record retained

    • Approved Inspector Register entry
    • Discipline and equipment scope of approval
  3. Gate 03ISO 9001 · 7.2 / 7.3

Competence is verified against that scope

Education, CV, certificates and project history are checked for the specific assignment. Approval is recorded with its limitations — an inspector approved for pressure vessels is not thereby approved for rotating machinery.

    Record retained

    • CV and qualification certificates
    • Assignment-specific competence record
    • Recorded limitations of approval
  4. Gate 04ISO 9001 · 8.4

    Independence and confidentiality are confirmed

The candidate is checked for any relationship with the vendor under inspection, and confidentiality terms are accepted before your documents are shared. Where an external provider is used, a supplier evaluation is completed first.

    Record retained

    • Impartiality and confidentiality declaration
    • External provider evaluation
  5. Gate 05ISO 9001 · 8.5

The assignment is issued in writing

A formal assignment fixes the agreed scope, standards, reporting format and the visits to be made. Access, safety induction and schedule are then arranged with the vendor and your team.

    Record retained

    • Written assignment with scope and standards
    • Pre-inspection coordination record
  6. Gate 06ISO 9001 · 8.6

Every report is reviewed before it reaches you

Findings are documented against the agreed hold and witness points, then reviewed internally for completeness, accuracy and compliance before release. Nonconformities are raised and notified immediately, not held for the final report.

    Record retained

    • Internal report review record
    • NCR / CAPA record where applicable
    • Final report and submission record

Approved against

Approval is granted per discipline, never in general

An inspector’s scope of approval names the equipment they may be assigned to. Where your equipment falls outside it, we say so rather than sending the nearest available person.

Where we use partners

NDT, laboratory testing and certification are partner-delivered

We do not operate our own laboratories, and we do not present partner capability as our own. Where your scope needs it, the work goes to an evaluated external provider under ISO 9001 clause 8.4 — and you are told which parts of the scope those are before you sign anything.

Tell us the equipment and the code.

We will come back with a named lead inspector, their scope of approval, and the visits we propose — or an honest answer that the scope is not ours.
