Determines physical and chemical property conformity through laboratory testing and mill certificate verification, backed by non-destructive testing (NDT) and mechanical test witnessing to confirm materials meet the specified grade and standard before fabrication proceeds.
The inspector witnesses mechanical and non-destructive tests, reviews mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1/3.2, and confirms material traceability from the certificate to the component, so the grade specified in the purchase order is the grade actually used. Catching a material discrepancy before fabrication proceeds avoids a far more expensive problem in service.
Key Highlights
- NDT witnessing: VT, PT, MT, RT, UT, PMI, hardness and ferrite testing
- Destructive test oversight: tensile, impact, bending and flattening tests
- Mill Test Certificate (MTC) review and material traceability verification
- Laboratory test report witnessing and verification
